How to Balance Business and Family Like a Pro
One of the biggest challenges of being a mompreneur is finding that elusive balance to do it all. If you’re anything like me, trying to be everything and everywhere for everyone can feel overwhelming. We want to be fully present for our kids and supportive spouses while staying on top of our businesses.
Here’s the good news: it’s absolutely possible.
I know because I’ve spent the past six years successfully balancing my businesses, blogging, book writing, and raising three kids. It’s not always easy, but with the right strategies, you can make it work. Below are my top three tried-and-true tips to help you juggle it all without burning out.
Mastering the Mompreneur Life: 3 Easy Strategies To Better Balance Business With Family
1. Be Open About Your Limitations
Honest communication has been a game-changer for me. My clients know that I work from a home office, and if I don’t immediately respond to them, I’m likely tending to my children’s boo-boos or needs. Setting these expectations early helps minimise misunderstandings.
Surprisingly, most clients are very understanding. In today’s world, nobody expects you to be accessible 24/7. Establishing clear communication guidelines with clients, suppliers, and business partners can work wonders for maintaining your work-life balance.
2. Create a Schedule That Works for You
Starting a new business can be exciting—there are countless ideas you want to jump into right away. But as a mompreneur, we wear multiple hats. You’re not just an entrepreneur; you’re a mom, a household manager, and more.
Here’s my advice: start small and systematic. For example, dedicate just two nights per week to working on your business. As you gain experience, identify your most productive hours. Maybe it’s early morning before the household wakes up, or maybe it’s during nap time.
Once you’ve found your rhythm, you’ll naturally discover ways to sneak in work alongside daily chores. For instance, while waiting for the laundry, respond to emails or return calls.
As your business grows, you may need to add more hours to your schedule. However, be mindful not to overfill your calendar. Always leave room for family time and downtime to avoid burnout.

3. Be Realistic About What You Can Accomplish
It’s easy to dream big, but juggling multiple responsibilities means accepting that you can’t do everything—at least not all at once. Knowing your limits upfront is essential to staying sane.
For example, I turn down media preview invitations if I know they’ll disrupt my existing workload or projects. Setting realistic expectations helps you focus on high-priority tasks without feeling overwhelmed.
Don’t be discouraged if your side business plans don’t go perfectly. Some nights, the kids might have trouble sleeping, fall sick, or you might simply be too exhausted to work. That’s okay.
Having a business while staying home with your kids can be incredibly fulfilling. You get the best of both worlds: doing meaningful work while spending quality time with your family.
Bonus Tip: Register Your Business Legally
Even if it’s a small side hustle, consider registering your business with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) to unlock legal benefits and credibility. Local incorporation agents can help simplify the process.
